
The Union Home Ministry has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) to the entire state of Manipur, but 13 police station areas have been excluded from it. Along with this, AFSPA has been extended for the next six months in the districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding in Arunachal Pradesh and three police station areas in the state. AFSPA has also been extended in Nagaland. It has been extended to eight districts and 21 police station areas in five more districts of the state. This extension will be effective for the next six months. According to a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Central Government, after reviewing the law and order situation in the State of Manipur, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, has declared the entire State of Manipur, except the areas falling under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations in five districts, as a ‘disturbed area’ for a period of six months from April 1, 2025, till it is withdrawn. AFSPA has not been implemented in some police station areas of Manipur. These include Imphal, Lamphal, City, Singjami, Patsoi, Wangoi, Porompat, Hingang, Irilbang, Thoubal, Bishnupu, Nambol and Kakching.
